WizeUp with Jack Petchey programme

The WizeUp Financial Education programme with Jack Petchey, in partnership with The Jack Petchey Foundation, has been extended to 125 mainstream schools across London and Essex. Additionally, 25 SEND and PRUs have their own specially constructed programme focused on financial education and independent living, featuring employability workshops to enhance skills.

The mainstream programme includes 4 sessions lasting between 60 and 75 minutes for year 12 and/or year 13 students. Schools can choose from topics like Budgeting and Earning Extra Money, Student Finance, Taxation and Pensions, Scamming, Gambling and Payday Loans, and Cryptocurrencies. For schools without a sixth form, years 10 and 11 can also participate in the financial education programme.

The SEND/PRU programme is individually tailored to each group, encompassing 8 hours delivered over 4 visits. The sessions are designed after a consultation visit by our SEND/PRU lead to each school. Please contact our head of programme, Laura Flynn to discuss.

The workshops are heavily subsidised by The Jack Petchey Foundation, requiring each school to contribute just £150 towards the total cost. If you are interested in learning more about either of our programmes, please get in touch. For further details or to book, please email our Head of Programme, Sophia Mousoulides.

“I’ve learned the importance of budgeting and managing money responsibly. I’ve started tracking my spending more closely and making sure I cover essentials before anything else.”

Frequently asked questions

Each session will be between 60 and 75 minutes, depending on your timetable flexibility. The more time we have, the more interactive elements we can include.

Sessions will vary in terms of interactivity, but every session includes discussions and decision-making activities. Some will involve worksheets, and videos as part of the sessions. Engagement is one of our core values so we ensure every session allows for the students to interact and build their knowledge.

The cost of all four sessions is £150.00 in total. This is a subsidised price for schools and colleges that are Jack Petchey Foundation Partners.  If you are not already a Jack Petchey Foundation partner, we can help. It is free to become a partner and easy to sign up.

The minimum is 25 and the maximum is as many students as you can fit into one space! Typically, we present to an entire year group.

For sixth forms and colleges, the sessions are open to Year 12 and 13. If your school doesn’t have a sixth form, the sessions are for Year 10 and 11.

Choose four topics:

 Year 12-13:

  • Budgeting for life after school
  • How tax works and how to boost your pension
  • How to maximise your savings and invest responsibly
  • Credit card management and building a positive credit rating
  • Understanding cryptocurrency and its risks
  • How to apply and manage student finance and information on degree apprenticeships
  • Things to know about renting and mortgages
  • Awareness of scamming, gambling and payday loans.

Year 10-11 (only for schools without a sixth form):

  • Budgeting and earning extra money
  • How tax works
  • How to maximise your savings and invest responsibly
  • Credit card management
  • Understanding cryptocurrency and its risks
  • Awareness of scamming, gambling and payday loans.

For sixth forms and colleges, we recommend having three sessions for Year 12 and one for Year 13. For schools without sixth forms, we suggest three sessions for Year 10 and one for Year 11. However, we are happy to have a different ratio. You can opt to have all four sessions in one day (such as in a drop-down day) or spread out the sessions throughout the year. All sessions are subject to availability, but we try to be as accommodating as possible. If you choose to not have the entire year group in each session but choose to have four small groups with the same topic, these will still count as four sessions.

Assembly-style usually works best.  Some of the sessions have worksheets but there isn’t a great deal of writing so students can lean on a folder or book.

Booking is very straightforward – just email your best dates/times, your year group and chosen topics for each session. We'll be in touch with our availability.

Once confirmed, we will email you again 3-5 days prior to each session to discuss logistics and share presentation materials.

We will try to secure your preferred speaker, but we cannot guarantee this due to prior bookings.

..the presenter was very good at communicating with students with learning needs, particularly taking into account their needs and emotional needs. All learners reacted well and enjoyed the session as a whole.”
